Memories

Add your memories of your time at St Michaels to the comments below.

It'd be helpful if you could start with your name and the years you were associated with the school.

Here's an example:

Clare McCutcheon  1979 - 85
I can remember being taught by Mrs. Nash. We used to turn tables on their sides and we used to put on little puppet shows. I also remember making coil pots and chapattis with Mrs. Morton and when the Town Crier came in Library week.

With Mr. McLeod I liked doing the nature reserve and making bird and hot boxes. I can remember the Lakeside holiday when there was a spaghetti fight in the dining hall. Claire Lowe lost her wellies in the lake and Mr. McLeod lost his hat. I can remember when some people in our class did impressions of David Bellamy and Mr. McLeod taped them and sent them off to him.

I can remember sports days because of the sack races, egg and spoon races and ice-creams. I also liked fetes when there were games and dressing-up competitions and maypole dancing. I liked the shows we put on at school and the videos we watched at the end of term.

  1. I was involved with St Michaels from when my son started in 1978 until my second daughter left in 1990.

St Michaels was always (and I'm sure still is) a very happy, friendly, family orientated, well run school. Everyone got on well = staff, children and parents = and always helped with the success of the school.

I was on the Committee for a few years and helped organise and run many a school fete. In those days we had celebrities to open the fetes and everyone got kitted out in fancy dress. I remember walking round Sandhurst with my 3 children, all of us dressed as Red Indians and a Cowboy. One year I dressed up as a panda and fell over a sack of potatoes outside Lionel Boltons shop!!!

For a few months I was a dinner lady too.

I also took over the Cycling Proficiency and got every child through to collect their badge. Rain or shine we cycled, (I) shouted and we enjoyed ourselves along Cedars Close/Rectory Close having braved crossing the main road (Mrs Hill had gone home by then and the crossing hadn't been built).

Mr Maskell was the first headmaster I met and Mr Knott was the last while my children attended the school.

My daughter's tile is still in the main porch 20+ years on!!!

I miss those days and only wish that my grandchildren could attend the school, but unfortunately it is not to be.

I look forward to joining in the celebrations and hope St Michael's has many more happy and successful years.

  3. Dear St Michael's

    CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR 150th YEAR

Many thanks for your letter and kind invitation to attend the 150 year celebration tea on the 9th of March.

Sadly I am unable to attend the tea but send everyone at St Michael's my sincere good wishes on this special anniversary.

I remember my time as Headteacher there with great fondness. The children, parents governors and staff were very kind to me. Together, we developed and improved a school which I am proud to be associated with.

St Michael's was a super community to work with!

The office and teaching staff I during my time at the school were delightful professionals. They were all dedicated to meeting the needs of the children and providing families with the education service they deserved.

The PTA was a particular highlight of my headship organising superb themed summer fairs and Christmas Bazzars. Parents also gave up their time to refurbish the building during my headship. Together, staff parents and children all worked hard to raise funds to improve the school. It is evident that those improvements continue.

I have just read the last OfSTED inspection report for your school. It is very impresive. Congratulations to you all for sustaining the success of St Michael's.

    Kindest regards to you all.
